Background
The basic data analysis in close cooperation with WP 2 and WP 3 will be aggregated in WP 4 into an important decision-making basis for tree species selection under changing climatic conditions (activities 2.1, 3.1 & 4.1). Based on the growth simulations in WP 3, existing data and the newly developed site mapping tool in WP 2, a model that maps tree species suitability and productivity in the context of climate change for Serbia will be developed (activity 4.2).
Methodology
In the first step, the data basis for the species distribution models (SDMs) will be developed in cooperation with WP 2. WP 4, together with WP 2, will do the necessary fieldwork to create the database for site mapping.
In the second step, the tree species suitability and productivity maps are summarized in cooperation with WP 2 and WP 3. In cooperation with the Freiburg partners, the methodology for SDM model development and productivity will be evaluated and corrected (activity 4.3). The developed model is used to estimate future site conditions for Serbia and to simulate (activities 2.5 & 4.4) future SDM under climate change.
As a result, these SDMs will be combined with the newly developed remote sensing based site maps for Serbia and WP 3 tree productivity maps and further developed into dynamic tree species maps (activities 2.6 & 4.5) to be used as the basis for forest climate change planning in Serbia at various spatial levels.
